A well-established international company is expanding its technology organization in Romania and is looking for an IT Technical/Engineering Manager to join its growing engineering team in Bucharest.

This is a key leadership position focused on technical excellence, people development, delivery, and innovation. You will lead a team of software engineers and work closely with Product, Architecture, and other Engineering leaders to build scalable, reliable digital products.

The role offers the opportunity to contribute not only to day-to-day engineering leadership, but also to the development of the company's technology organization in Romania.

Your Responsibilities

Leadership & People Development

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers.
• Support engineers in their technical growth, career development, and continuous learning.
• Build a collaborative, transparent, and high-performing team environment.
• Provide guidance and support when teams face technical or organizational challenges.

Technical Excellence

• Partner with architects and senior engineers to establish and maintain engineering best practices.
• Promote clean, maintainable, and scalable code.
• Ensure high standards around reliability, performance, scalability, and software quality.
• Contribute to technical decision-making while remaining close enough to the technology to understand and support the team.

Delivery & Agile Ways of Working

• Take ownership of successful delivery across engineering initiatives.
• Support effective prioritization and resource allocation.
• Identify and remove technical or organizational blockers.
• Encourage and facilitate Agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban.
• Ensure strong collaboration between engineering teams and business/product stakeholders.

Cross-functional Collaboration

• Work closely with Product Managers, Designers, Architects, and other Engineering Managers.
• Contribute to product roadmaps and translate business objectives into effective technical solutions.
• Facilitate clear communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

• Encourage experimentation, knowledge sharing, and technical innovation.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement and technical curiosity.
• Support initiatives that allow engineers to explore new technologies, approaches, and solutions.

Strategic Contribution

• Contribute to the continued development of the company's engineering organization in Romania.
• Help establish and strengthen the local engineering culture.
• Collaborate with international stakeholders and align local engineering practices with the company's broader technology strategy.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 8+ years of professional software development experience.
• At least 3+ years of experience in technical leadership and/or engineering management.
• Strong hands-on knowledge of modern software development and web technologies.
• Experience with cloud architectures, ideally including GCP.
• Professional experience with technologies such as Java, Kotlin and/or TypeScript.
• Proven experience leading Agile engineering teams.
• Experience delivering complex, scalable web applications or digital products.
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles, architecture, quality, scalability, and performance.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and motivate technical teams.
• Fluent English, both written and spoken.
